Connect to Claude
Ask Claude to find the shot.
Connect Sift to the Claude desktop app in one click. Then ask for a shot or a line in plain words, and Claude searches your footage through Sift and links you straight to the moment.
In short: Sift’s Connect to Claude (Integrations › Claude) adds Sift to the Claude desktop app. Claude can then search your footage by what’s on screen, what’s said or who’s in it, check how shots move and sound, work in your Selects, read your open timeline in Premiere or Resolve, and send to your editor or share a link after you allow it in Sift. It never changes, moves or deletes your footage, and it never edits your sequence.
No editor needed. Sift works on its own as a desktop app on Mac and Windows: search, preview, build Selects and share footage by link without opening an editor. The editor panels are optional.
What Claude can do.
- See the library: every synced folder and Frame.io project with ids, the people you’ve named, and any clip’s facts (frame rate, resolution, start timecode, speech, people).
- Find: search Visual (what’s on screen), Spoken (what was said) or by person, inside chosen folders, with filters for length, 4K or HD, frame rate, vertical, shot date, real footage only, and shots already in Selects. Every answer says what couldn’t be searched (a drive that isn’t connected, footage not ready yet). Find shots that look like any clip.
- Check: look at the exact frame at any second, a contact sheet of a clip, and Sift’s shot check: how a stretch moves (locked off, smooth, handheld, shaky), where focus lands, exposure, and sound problems like wind or clipping.
- Organize: work in Selects like an editor (add, remove, trim, reorder, rename, notes), name people, and follow your house rules. Every change is listed in Sift and can be undone.
- Your timeline (with the Sift panel open in Premiere or Resolve): read the open sequence, find alternatives for the shot under the playhead, fill a gap, and place b-roll over an interview or sermon on a new timeline. Your sequence is never changed.
- Deliver: send to Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut, export, gather files, and share by link. Each asks you first, on a card in Sift.
Things to ask: “Find where the pastor talks about forgiveness in the Sermons folder”, “Show me wide drone shots over water”, “Which interviews mention the budget? Give me timecodes”, “What’s in my Selects for the harbor scene?”, “Put the three best drone shots in a Selects group called Opening”. Click Open in Sift on any result and Sift jumps to that moment, ready to play or send to Premiere or Resolve.
What stays on your computer.
Sift runs the search on your computer and the connection is local only: the assistant app starts Sift’s connector on the same computer. Original video files are never sent, and absolute file paths and face data are never returned. Sending, exporting and sharing ask you first in Sift; everything else an assistant changes in Sift can be undone. What the assistant asks for does leave your computer: the search results, transcripts, clip details, thumbnails and frames it asks for are processed by the assistant’s maker under its terms. Don’t connect an assistant if your agreement forbids that. The privacy page has the full list.
Set up in one click.
In Sift, open Integrations (account menu or sidebar) and click Connect on the Claude tile. Sift adds itself to the Claude desktop app’s settings file, keeps your other settings, and saves your previous file next to it as a backup. Restart Claude, keep Sift running, and ask. Click Disconnect on the same tile to undo it. Developers and other assistants: see the Sift MCP server reference.
Honest limits.
Claude only sees what Sift’s search returns, so the quality of answers is the quality of the search; check results before using them. Sift must be running. Claude never edits your sequence: b-roll it places arrives as a new timeline you stack above yours. Shot checks are measurements, not a final call; watch the picks. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic; Sift Clips is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic.
Set up in four steps.
- Update Sift
Version 1.0.14 or later for checks, Selects, timelines and sending (Sift updates itself).
- Open Integrations
Account menu or sidebar › Integrations › Claude › Connect.
- Restart Claude
Open the Claude desktop app with Sift running.
- Ask
Describe a shot or a line in plain words, or name a folder to search in.
Why it helps.

Questions
Do I need the Claude desktop app?
Yes. The one-click setup writes to the Claude desktop app’s settings. Claude on the web can’t start apps on your computer.
Does it work with ChatGPT too?
Yes. Sift has a one-click Connect to ChatGPT for the ChatGPT desktop app as well, and any app that supports local MCP servers can use Sift’s connector.
Can Claude see my whole library?
It sees the search results, folder names and Selects that Sift returns for its requests, with file paths and face identities left out.
Is my footage sent to Anthropic?
Not the video files. Search results, quotes and small thumbnails that Claude asks for are processed by Anthropic.
Does it cost extra?
No. It’s included in the license. Free for 3 days or 25 searches. No card.
