Sift

Sift for Windows.

The same Sift, on Windows 10 and 11. Search all your footage by what’s on screen, what’s said and who’s in it, then bring the moment into Premiere or DaVinci Resolve. If anything doesn’t work, tell us and we’ll fix it fast.

In short: Sift for Windows is the Sift app for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 PCs. It installs for your Windows account without an administrator password, indexes and searches your footage on your PC, and uses the same $99-a-year license as the Mac app.

No editor needed. Sift works on its own as a desktop app on Mac and Windows: search, preview, build Selects and share footage by link without opening an editor. The editor panels are optional.

How it works.

  1. Download

Click Download for Windows, then open the installer when it finishes.

  2. Install

Click Install. Sift installs for your Windows account, with no administrator password. The installer is signed by its publisher, Andrew Boatner.

  3. Open Sift

Sift opens when setup finishes, and lives in the Start menu. Add a footage folder and start searching.

Why editors use it.

Everything from the Mac app

Visual, Spoken and People search, Selects, Link sharing, and the Premiere and DaVinci Resolve panels.

Your footage stays on your PC

Indexing and search run on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to be searched.

One license, Mac or Windows

A $99-a-year license works on either, one computer at a time. Moving it takes one click: License › Use on another computer.

Questions

What do I need?

A 64-bit PC with Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) or Windows 11, about 4 GB of free disk space, and internet for first setup, which downloads the search models.

Is the installer signed?

Yes. Sift’s installer and app are code-signed (publisher Andrew Boatner), so Windows knows who made them. If Windows ever shows “Windows protected your PC” for a brand-new version, click More info and check the publisher says Andrew Boatner, then Run anyway.

Do I need a graphics card?

No. Sift for Windows does its work on the processor. Preparing a large library the first time takes longer than on an Apple Silicon Mac; searching is quick once it’s ready.

Does my Mac license work on Windows?

Yes. It’s the same license. It works on one computer at a time: in Sift on the Mac, choose License › Use on another computer, then enter your key on the PC.

How do I uninstall it?

Settings › Apps › Installed apps › Sift › Uninstall. Your library and settings are kept in case you reinstall.

Is the free trial the same?

Yes. Free for 3 days or 25 searches. No card. The 3 days start when your first footage is ready to search, so preparing it never uses your trial.
