DaVinci Resolve
Find any shot from Resolve.
Search every drive by describing the shot, quoting a line or naming a person, then bring the moment straight into your bins or timeline.
In short: Sift is a Mac and Windows desktop app that also works on its own, and has an optional panel for DaVinci Resolve. It indexes the footage folders and drives you add and lets you search them by what’s on screen (Visual), what’s said (Spoken) and who’s in it (People). From the Resolve panel you can import clips and folders into bins, append a selection to the timeline, or place it at the playhead.
No editor needed. Sift works on its own as a desktop app on Mac and Windows: search, preview, build Selects and share footage by link without opening an editor. The editor panels are optional.
Compatibility, stated plainly.
Sift’s Resolve panel has been tested with DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6. The free edition and newer versions, including Resolve 21, haven’t been verified. Try it on your own setup during the free trial before you buy. On Windows, the panel has had less real-world testing than on the Mac; email us if setup fails and we’ll fix it fast.
How it works.
- Add your drives
Point the Sift app at your footage. It indexes on your computer and notices new footage as you shoot.
- Open Sift in Resolve
Settings › Editing apps installs the panel; open it from Resolve’s Workspace › Scripts menu.
- Search and place
Import to a bin, append to the timeline, or place the moment at the playhead.
Why editors use it.
Search every synced drive, whether or not it’s in the current project.
Clips you bring in are filed under Sift › Footage, matching your folder structure.
Selects groups you build in the app arrive in Resolve as bins.
Indexing and search run on your computer; footage isn’t uploaded to be searched.

What does it cost?
$99 a year for one computer, Mac or Windows. Free for 3 days or 25 searches. No card. The editor panels (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve and, on the Mac, Final Cut Pro) are included.
